SETI AIR News Header

Greetings

Bettina Forget

The SETI AIR program is looking forward to an exciting year ahead. We are about to announce the winner of the Beyond Silos STEAM Education residency and are preparing to launch the Speculative Futures BioArt residency this summer. The artists who joined the AIR program last year have begun to create prototypes, run tests, write drafts, and engage in deep conversations with our scientists. It's exciting to work with this wonderful group of talented people from around the world, each bringing their diverse backgrounds and unique perspectives to the question “Are we alone in the universe?”

This month, we’re featuring Daniela Brill Estrada, who is inspired by origin of life research, astrobiology, and the trajectories of different chemical elements. Don’t forget to check out our News and Events section for the latest exhibitions and presentations by our SETI AIRs.

Wishing you clear skies,
Bettina

AIR Program Spotlight

Daniela Brill Estrada

Daniela Brill Estrada

Daniela Brill Estrada joined the SETI AIR program as one of the winners of the Cosmic Consciousness residency, together with her collaborators Bart Kuipers and Julie Michele Morin. The team is currently working on the project Exoplanet Poetry, a book of poems using an AI trained on chemical data from imagined extraterrestrial sources.

Originally from Bogotá, Daniela lives and works in Vienna. Daniela's creative process is nourished by her interest in complexity sciences, origin of life research, aesthetics and non-hierarchical structures of knowledge. Daniela has worked with institutions and networks such as the ORIGIN network of high energy physics at CERN, Institute of Science and Technology Austria, the Hubble Space Telescope, and art-science institutions such as COALESCE bio-art laboratory in Buffalo. Daniela's work is focused on de-hierarchizing matter and questioning binary western taxonomies and categories, particularly that of life-non-life. In her work, Daniela uses matter that mutates, changes and interacts to make visible the chemical processes of different kinds of matter.

Daniela’s work is currently on show:

In this conversation, hosted by SETI AIR Director Bettina Forget, discover how Wilner weaves connections between the human mind, machine learning, consciousness, and our ideas about extraterrestrial life.
