Biography

Michigan born, Norwegian transplant, now returning to the US to work with the Multi-slit Solar Explorer (MUSE) team. I’m a curious and driven researcher who has worked on projects worldwide from drilling ice cores on Icelandic glaciers, to analyzing solar MHD simulations from my couch in Norway. I received my BSc in Physics and BSc in Astrophysics from Michigan State University, my MSc in Geophysics from the University of Iceland, and my PhD in theoretical astrophysics from the University of Oslo.

In terms of outreach, I’ve been visible on nearly every platform imaginable: schools, museums, universities, national parks, cruise ships, virtual classrooms, and social media. My favorite outreach projects so far have been serving as the resident astrophysicist for Badlands National Park, and sailing along the Norwegian coast with Hurtigruten Expeditions (HX) as a solar and aurora scientist.

In my spare time, I enjoy bouldering, singing, foraging in the forest, hiking, traveling, stargazing, road-tripping, making pancakes, and putting together puzzles with my wife.

I'm a born communicator with a trained science background who enjoys making hard science accessible to everyone!
