POSITION SUMMARY
The SETI Institute located in Mt. View, California, is currently seeking a Senior Systems Administrator. This position reports to the Science and Engineering Operations Manager at the Hat Creek Radio Observatory and will be tasked with supporting the IT infrastructure of the Observatory in Hat Creek, California. The incumbent will be responsible for the administration, maintenance and troubleshooting of all servers, network systems, VoIP, production database, and monitor and control software. The position ensures that all systems meet the Observatory standards for the IT infrastructure. The majority of the work will be performed on site at the Hat Creek Radio Observatory.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Server asset (Physical & Virtual) management.
- Direct role in data center, network infrastructure, and VoIP systems operation.
- Work with scientists to diagnose and repair hardware and software problems in lab environments.
- Document and communicate status, procedures, and plans.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
- 3 years of experience.
- Unix Server experience required.
- Proxmox Server experience required.
- High Availability (HA) server setup experience required.
- Network design and configuration experience required.
- Basic Ubuntu system administration and LDAP user account knowledge required.
- Experience with Ansible, Nagios, RADIUS, Grafana, and MySQL desired.
- Python, Java experience and software development skills for monitoring applications desired.
