Position Summary:
The SETI Institute invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on magnetohydrodynamical simulations. The work will involve conducting simulations of disk winds to better understand the nature of accretion in protoplanetary disks. This work will be performed in close collaboration with a team of researchers led by Senior SETI Scientist. In addition, the candidate will be involved with synthesizing and documenting results in publications. Additional responsibilities include mentoring and assisting students involved in the project.
The position is a Part Time position or 50% time. Extension of this appointment will depend on the availability of funding.
Salary range: $75,000-$85,000. Travel funds will also be available to attend conferences and meetings.
Responsibilities:
- Determine ranges of parameters for MHD models and run a suite of wind models
- Investigate disk winds under different conditions, analyze and interpret results
- Provide mentoring and assistance to students involved in the project.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
- Ph.D in physics, astronomy or related fields with at least two years of postdoctoral experience.
- Experience with conducting numerical simulations with state-of-the-art MHD codes such as Athena++.
- Previous experience in simulating astrophysical plasmas, especially related to protoplanetary disk environments is desired.
The SETI Institute offers competitive benefits, including health/dental/vision insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
Diversity and Equity:
The SETI Institute is an Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply, including women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and people with disabilities.
