NASA's Artemis mission seeks to land the next people on the Moon. The ultimate goal is to build a lunar base, establish a long-term human presence, and perform research on the surface. Before they get to that point, however, NASA has to launch the Artemis 1 mission, which will be the first in a series of increasingly complex missions. Currently scheduled for Saturday, September 3, Artemis 1 will demonstrate both the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket as well as the Orion spacecraft in a 37-day mission that will leave Earth, briefly orbit the Moon, and then return to Earth and splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. To discuss the mission and lunar science objectives, we are joined by Dr. Georgiana Kramer, a Senior Scientist and lunar expert from the Planetary Science Institute.
